Sciatica Resolved!

Sciatica almost kept Steve out of the season…

But after a few treatments at Vital Wellness Center his Sciatica is gone and he is back on the court!

Sciatica, Tennis Injury Resolved

Steven Lunsford competes in a doubles tournament in Indianapolis.

Stephen Lunsford has been a Nationally Ranked Top-Ten tennis player for the last eight years.  His 70 and over category is stacked with tough competition, but Steve is a perennial powerhouse and is currently ranked number seven in United States Singles.  So, when a painful nerve issue threatened the 2015 season Stephen knew he had to find the right treatment, and fast.

Sciatica is a condition in which some part of the Sciatic Nerve becomes irritated though pressure or adhesion.  The pain of sciatica can be unbearable.  A thorough examination may reveal the cause and targeted treatment can quickly resolve Sciatica.  However, many people suffer from Sciatica for months and years undergoing painful and risky treatments without much relief.

Traditional chiropractic helped some, but the pain still kept Stephen from running and training with full effort.  Finally, he found an Active Release Techniques provider who started treatment and referred him to Vital Wellness Center for advanced “Long Tract Nerve” treatment.  Within a very short period of time, he was able to get back on his training schedule.  “The improvement has been dramatic!” Says, Stephen.  “I heartily support the Active Release Technique and truly appreciate the service I have received.”

The difference was in the way Vital Wellness Center approached Stephen’s Sciatica with a Functional Movement Systems analysis, pinpointing the exact cause of his pain and getting right to it.

A lifelong athlete, Stephen played football and ran track in high school in Kansas. He went on to play baseball at the University of Kansas and continued playing semi-pro in Kansas City after graduation. Around age 40, he was introduced to tennis while living in Connecticut and it has continued to be his sport of choice ever since. After retiring in 2002, he moved to Stuart, Florida and began playing competitive tennis on the “senior” circuit under United States Tennis Association auspices. He is currently ranked 7th in the U.S. in singles in the 70 and over age category.

In addition to working with a tennis coach and playing 4 to 5 days a week, he supplements his fitness with swimming, biking, and a four day a week strength and conditioning routine developed by a college strength and conditioning tennis coach.

The staff at Vital Wellness Center congratulates Stephen on his amazing success during the 2015 season.  He is a true example of great athletics “over 70”.
